Epic Northern Manitoba Summer Fishing Adventure

Grab your tackle and get ready for the fishing trip of a lifetime in Northern Manitoba's pristine lakes. Captain Mac Mulligan's 10-hour private fishing charter is your ticket to landing trophy walleye, pike, and lake trout while soaking in Canada's stunning wilderness. With decades of experience and local know-how, Mac will put you on the hottest bites and share insider tips to help you reel in your personal best.

What to Expect on the Water

Your day kicks off bright and early as you meet Cap'n Mac at the dock. He'll have the boat prepped and loaded with top-notch gear, so all you need to bring is your excitement and maybe a lucky hat. As you cruise out onto the crystal-clear waters, you'll be blown away by the untouched shorelines and dense forests. Mac knows these waters like the back of his hand, and he'll take you straight to the honey holes where the big ones are biting. Whether you're a seasoned angler or it's your first time wetting a line, Mac's patient guidance and local insight will have you fishing like a pro in no time.

Techniques That Land Lunkers

On this trip, we'll be using a mix of trolling and casting techniques to target different species. For walleye, we might drift with jigs or bottom bounce with live bait rigs. When we're after those monster pike, get ready to cast big spoons or swimbaits near weed beds and drop-offs. Lake trout often require a different approach - we'll likely troll with downriggers to reach the cooler, deeper waters they prefer. Mac's boat is decked out with fish finders and GPS, so we can track schools and mark productive spots. Don't worry if you're new to these methods; Cap'n Mac will walk you through each technique and help you perfect your presentation.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Northern Pike: These toothy predators are the stuff of angling legend in Manitoba. Known for their aggressive strikes and powerful runs, pike can grow to impressive sizes in these nutrient-rich waters. Summer is prime time for targeting pike in the shallows and near weed beds. The thrill of a big pike smashing your lure on the surface is something you'll never forget. Mac knows all the prime spots where the monsters lurk, and he'll help you land that 40+ incher you've been dreaming about.

Walleye: Often called pickerel by locals, walleye are prized for both their tasty fillets and their fighting spirit. These golden-eyed beauties tend to school up in Northern Manitoba's lakes, which means when you find them, the action can be non-stop. Summer sees walleye move to deeper structures, but Mac's local knowledge will put you right on top of them. There's nothing quite like feeling that telltale 'tap-tap' on your line and setting the hook on a chunky walleye.

Lake Trout: For many anglers, lake trout are the ultimate freshwater trophy. These deep-dwelling fish grow to enormous sizes in the cold, clear waters of Northern Manitoba. Summer fishing often requires specialized techniques to reach the lakers in their deep-water haunts, but the payoff is worth it. When you hook into a big lake trout, get ready for a battle royale as these powerful fish use the entire water column to their advantage. Mac's expertise in finding and catching lake trout is second to none, giving you the best shot at landing a true giant.

Time to Book Your Spot

Cap'n Mac Mulligan's 10-hour summer fishing trip is more than just a day on the water – it's an all-out angling adventure in one of the most beautiful settings you'll ever see. With all the gear provided and Mac's wealth of knowledge at your disposal, you're set up for success whether you're after your first trophy or your fiftieth. The boat's limited to just three anglers, so you'll get plenty of personal attention and have room to work those big fish. At 550 CAD for the whole day, it's a steal for the quality of fishing and guiding you're getting. Don't let another season slip by without experiencing the world-class fishing Northern Manitoba has to offer. Give Mac a call and lock in your date – the fish are waiting, and trust me, you don't want to miss out on this action. Tight lines!

Fish Feast with Josh

quotes

Josh took excellent care of me and my wife. He is knowledgeable and confident handling himself and his boat. We had a fantastic time! He took us to a spot on the river with abundant fish. We caught fish consistently—five within an hour. Though a few got away, Josh even cleaned our catch at no charge and provided us with a container to carry the fish home. Unlike other charter companies that charge per fish, he made the trip enjoyable and stress-free. Thank you, Josh! We look forward to booking another trip with you at your amazing price!

Learn more about the species

Lake Trout

Lake trout are the kings of cold, deep water. These big char can top 40 pounds, though 15-30 is more common. You'll find them suspended in the basin of our deepest, coldest lakes. They're slow-growing fish that put up a stubborn fight. Early spring right after ice-out is prime time, but we catch them all summer in the depths. Anglers love lakers for their size and the technical challenge of finding them. Plus, they're great eating. To catch one, you've got to go deep - often 50 feet or more. Jigging with big spoons or soft plastics works well. Here's a tip: watch your fish finder for schools of ciscos. Where you find baitfish, you'll often find lake trout nearby.

Lake Trout

Northern Pike

Northern Pike are the aggressive predators of our lakes, growing up to 4 feet long. You'll find them lurking in shallow, weedy areas waiting to ambush prey. These fish put up a heck of a fight when hooked. Summer's great for pike fishing, especially early mornings or evenings when they're most active. Folks love targeting pike for the thrill of the catch - they're strong, fast, and known to snap lines with those razor-sharp teeth. If you want to land a big one, try using large, flashy lures that mimic injured baitfish. Cast near weed edges or drop-offs and retrieve slowly. Just watch your fingers when unhooking these toothy critters!

Northern Pike

Walleye

Walleye are prized catches here, usually 15-30 inches long. Look for them along deeper drop-offs, rock piles, and weed edges. They've got those distinctive glowing eyes that help them feed in low light. Spring and fall are prime walleye seasons, but summer evenings can be great too. Anglers love walleye for their tasty white meat and the challenge of finding them. These fish are picky eaters and light biters, so you've got to finesse them. Try jigging with live minnows or leeches near the bottom. My local trick? Troll slowly with bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses when the bite's tough. It's all about patience and reading the water with walleye.
